International Social Sciences Conference 2020

Keynote Speaker

Prof. Chris Harrison
Speech title:  Assessment for Learning: what have we learned from 20 years of research and practice
Chris Harrison is Professor in Science Education at King’s College London. She works closely with teachers promoting professional learning as a teacher educator and researcher. She has a keen interest in the way teachers conceptualise and enact assessment in the classroom and how they adapt practice, particularly when curriculum or pedagogic changes are introduced. Her research work began over 20 years ago, implementing a project in response to the seminal review on formative assessment by Black & Wiliam 1998. This keynote will focus both on refinement and adaptation of methodology to suit contexts and keep pace with a developing field. It will also focus on the messages learned when researchers and teachers bridge the divide between theory and practice. She has recently written a book with Margaret Heritage on these ideas entitled The Power of Assessment for Learning.
